The Wuxi Economic Development Zone in southern Wuxi borders the downtown area to the north and Taihu Lake to the south.
The development zone, covering an area of 56.6 square kilometers, administers 38 residential communities of two subdistricts with a permanent resident population of 322,100.

In 2021, the development zone's GDP totaled 41.67 billion yuan ($6.22 billion), while its fixed asset investment reached 17.597 billion yuan.
The pillar digital industry in the zone is developing rapidly. It has introduced a group of digital companies with annual operating revenue exceeding 100 million yuan and seen the listing of a number of local companies.
The zone is presently home to 36 digital economy companies above designated size with a combined operating revenue of 13 billion yuan. Inspur Droso has been listed among the top 50 big data companies in China for three consecutive years.
