Wuxi's industrial output, an important economic indicator, rose 32.4 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of this year, with the city's industrial production rebounding steadily, according to the local bureau of industry and information technology.
In March, the city's industrial output surged 18 percent year-on-year, up by three percentage points compared with the province's average. The growth rate ranked first among cities in southern Jiangsu province.
From January to March, the city's industrial output value above designated size reached 462.57 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 39.1 percent.
In addition, among the city's five major industries, the machinery and metallurgical industries grew faster than the city's average.
In the first quarter of 2021, the machinery industry is expected to increase by 50.3 percent year-on-year in terms of the output value of industrial enterprises above designated size, which is 11.2 percentage points higher than the city's average and contributes 50.6 percent to the city's industrial growth.
The output of the metallurgical industry increased by 45.5 percent year-on-year. The prices of its main products, such as wire rod, rebar, bearing steel, and electrolytic copper, increased by 30 percent to 60 percent year-on-year, which has greatly contributed to the growth.
The output of the electronics industry increased by 23.1 percent year-on-year, maintaining rapid growth since last year. The petrochemical and textile industries recovered and grew by 34.4 percent and 25.4 percent respectively year-on-year.
