Wuxi Municipal Library was first established in 1912 and opened to the public in 1915. It is listed among the first batch of municipal public libraries in China.
The newly-built Wuxi Municipal Library opened in October, 2000. It has a floor area of 28,243 square meters and has advanced communication facilities, multi-media introductions and an automated management system. The library also has over 20 service windows for book lending, e-reading, and document retrieval, and provides 1,800 reading seats.
Around 15 percent of the library’s 2 million books are considered to be ‘ancient’. It receives 1.8 million readers every year and circulates 1 million books. In addition to this, around 360 reader activities - including exhibitions, workshops and forums – are held annually.
