As worldwide attention shifts to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the world's most famous enterprises have entered a competition in which Chinese enterprises are leading players.
Wuxi-based Jiangyin HRL New Material Technological Co Ltd was responsible for manufacturing the 160,000-square meter aluminium-plastic panels for the roof of the Al Janoub Stadium, one of the eight stadiums to be used during the global event.
The Al Janoub Stadium has a retractable roof, which takes about 30 minutes to fully unfold. When fully unfolded, the roof looks like a sail enshrouding the stadium.

Wuxi-made aluminium-plastic panels, a new finishing material, are easy to shape, have high flame resistance, and are lightweight, said Zhou Yabo, general manager of Jiangyin HRL.
Zhou added that they also made punchings on the panels for ventilation and used special adhesion coating to increase the joint strength of the panels.
In 2000, Jiangyin HRL started manufacturing various aluminium-plastic composite panels, 90 percent of which are exported to Europe and the Americas.
