Construction on the expressway linking Yixing and Mashan in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, has made significant progress, with the cofferdam joint project in Yixing being completed on March 30.
Since the cofferdam joint project between the No 6 bunker in the Zhushan Lake tunnel and No 9 bunker in Mashan started in November 2021, more than 12,000 steel sheet piles and 2,900 steel pipe piles have been rammed deep into the lake.
Next, construction workers will pump water from the joint section, clear mud, start construction on the exterior protected structure and dig the No 1 bunker, laying a solid foundation for the main structure of the expressway.

The Yixing-Mashan expressway in Yixing is being built according to eco-friendly principles and efforts are being made not to pollute Taihu Lake.
Vehicle-mounted water spraying facilities, a sewage purification and treatment system, and other facilities have been used to make the construction more environmentally-friendly.
As an important part of the province's transportation network, the Yixing-Mashan expressway spans 15.7 kilometers, including 7.81 km in the Zhushan Lake tunnel, and runs from Zhoutie town in Yixing to Lyujiangkou on Huantaihu Road in Mashan.
After the expressway is completed, travel time between the downtown area of Wuxi and Yixing will be reduced to just half an hour. In addition, tourism potential of Mashan and Yixing will be further explored.
