Construction on the second phase of the Gaolang Road Expressway is expected to start within this year, which will be instrumental to the city's expressway road network, said Yang Wei from the Wuxi Key Construction Project Management Center on Aug 24.
Works will be carried out on Gaolang East Road (Linghu Avenue to Changjiang South Road) and Gaolang West Road (Lihu Avenue to Yuanxi Road) as part of the second phase of the Gaolang Road Expressway project.
The 1.85-kilometer expressway will connect the first phase in the west abutment of Gaolang Bridge to the west and pass through Yunhe West Road, Chengnan Road, the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway, and Zhujiang Road to the east. It will also connect to the main line of Gaolang Road of the Airport Interchange.
The first phase of the Gaolang Road Expressway is now under construction. It is expected to relieve the present traffic congestion between Gaolang Road and Lihu Avenue after being put into operation, according to officials.
According to experts, the Gaolang Road Expressway will play an important role in building a high-speed road transportation network of the city, as there currently isn't an east-west expressway within nine kilometers from the express inner ring Jincheng Road to Huan Taihu Expressway, nor a north-south expressway within 11 kilometers from Lihu Avenue to the Airport Expressway.
