Liangxi district, serving as the downtown area of Wuxi, is not only a showpiece of the city's modern development but also home to various historic and cultural sites.
Four travel routes were recommended to local residents and tourists by the district's culture, sports and tourism bureau Dec 17, featuring the district's 133 historic and cultural sites under government protection, popular tourist attractions and ancient alleys.
Visitors following these routes will experience the city's charms created by the collision and integration of history and the modern world, according to officials.
A number of tourist attractions and cultural venues in Liangxi district are also recommended, including the China National Industry and Commerce Museum, Wuxi Museum, Qian Zhongshu's Former Residence, Donglin Academy, Gu Yuxiu's Former Residence, Xue Fucheng's Former Residence, Huishan Ancient Town, Qin Bangxian's Former Residence, He Zhenliang and Olympic Exhibition Hall and China Folk Music Museum.

In the morning, you can put on hanfu, traditional Chinese clothing, and read the classics at Donglin Academy. Then, go through Sujia Alley and arrive at Xiaolou Alley to visit the historic block newly opened in recent years and now popular among young people.
In the afternoon, you can take a bus to try local specialties and enjoy traditional Wuxi-style storytelling at the cultural block at Qingming Bridge scenic area. Taking a boat on the Grand Canal is a must-try way to find out the city's water history.
